Most people don’t understand taxes and understandably so. The US tax code is over 73,000 pages. We are all aware that we pay taxes. For example, money comes out of our paychecks, we pay a little extra for food, and a bit is always tacked onto the cost of items we purchase for our homes. When you start to add up the numbers you begin realizing how much you are constantly paying in taxes. So, why can't taxes be lower?

Taxes are important! We want to better inform our community, share tax resources, and get people talking because it will eliminate all the stress and confusion surrounding taxes. We should feel more connected to what we pay and why. TurboTax isn't even the worst offender, but they are an indicator of the problems facing our tax system. Our tax code has been written by corporations that spend millions lobbying congress to write the laws that they want. That needs to change; the tax code should be fair and it's not.
To learn more about taxes and how we can fix the system:
Americans for Tax Fairness - Americans for Tax Fairness (ATF) is a diverse campaign of national, state and local organizations united in support of a tax system that works for all Americans. It has come together based on the belief that the country needs comprehensive, progressive tax reform that results in greater revenue to meet our growing needs. This requires big corporations and the wealthy to pay their fair share in taxes, not to live by their own set of rules.
The White House- The Obama administration has some decent plans for tax reform. Too bad congress can't pass any of it.
FAIRTAX - An organization pushing for the replacement of the current tax system with a national retail-level consumption tax. The biggest issue with their plan is that it does nothing to address wealth inequality, as they don't plan to have any wealth taxes. It's an interesting idea, but without a wealth tax, this plan is a wolf in sheep's clothing.
The Congressional Progressive Caucus - Some good stuff from some of the members of Congress. Too bad they don't have much pull.
